Our Stay @ Yeppoon (Yeppoon Farmstay)

The best shower and view in Australia right now? Here’s what a shower at Sunrise looks like at Yeppoon Farmstay, Farnborough QLD AUSTRALIA

YEPPOON FARMSTAY - FARNBOROUGH - DARUMBAL LAND

We first heard about Yeppoon Farmstay via Instagram. You can see from the photos, it is a very “Instagrammable” location. And despite the farmstay bit, it is only 5 mins out of Yeppoon itself with a very easy drive to and from town for supplies, etc. It’s very dog friendly and Scout loved not having to be on a lead for the entire stay (he doesn’t wander and always stays close to the van).

At first we didn’t think we could get a booking as it looked like they were booked out - I can’t even remember where I checked. Not one to give up, Liz emailed them and we secured a 4 night stay.

After the first day the weather turned to absolute 💩 but we could see how magnificent the location and views were so we became determined to stay it out for better weather.

We had already agreed with each other to extend our stay for better weather when Mother Nature decided to give us a lesson or two. On night 3 of our stay and despite the awning being tied down like no awning has been tied down before, an absolute belter of a gust broke the awning free of its restraints and sent it up and over the caravan. It took about 90 minutes to wrangle the awning back and tie it up.

In the end, a 4 night stay turned into a 10 night stay as we organised a replacement awning and sadly I (Craig) had to head over to NZ for a few days for my Uncle’s funeral.

Now for the ABC4 review… (A = positives, B = unique/special, C = needs improvement, 4 = rating, ✅ = additional tip)

[ A ] views and hosts. There really are a lot of positives about Yeppoon Farmstay. The views of the Keppel coastline from the hill that Yeppoon Farmstay calls home are nothing short of stunning. Adam and Faith (hosts) have done an amazing job with the property and every site has a view with the sites at the top of the hill having the prime view directly to the Keppel Islands while the others still give you views with the added benefit of privacy. On to the hosts, the best description I can give beyond friendly and caring, is they give you the perfect amount of they are there if you need them, not there if you don’t. There’s a community bonfire most weekends at the “tinny bar”. Nothing was too much for them and we tested that by taking our stay from 4 nights to 10 🙂. They really were the perfect hosts.

[ B ] amenities. The amenities block at Yeppoon Farmstay arguably makes it the most “Instagrammable” location. Its charm comes from looking like an old tin shed on the outside but inside are modern facilities with plumbed basins and toilets. It doesn’t stop there, this amenity block has been designed to maximise the view with a stunning outlook to the Keppel islands. Yet each of the 3 cubicles feels private. Two cubicles have a toilet and a shower (best enjoyed at sunrise) with the last cubicle being a toilet and basin only. As for the showers, I’d be surprised if we find a better shower in Australia.

[ C ] no power. The closest you could get for suggesting an improvement is to have some powered sites. Every site has water available but no power. That said, most caravans are self sufficient nowadays and we went 10 days without needing to plug into power with at least half of those days being cloudy/rainy. Part of me also likes the need to be self-sufficient with the power - we are on a farmstay after all! But, it was the closest I could come to talking about an improvement.

[ 4 ] 4 out of 4. 2 months into our lap of our Australia we have our first perfect score! Hopefully the above says it all. If you are ever in Yeppoon and you have the appropriate van/trailer/tent set up for this kind of stay, it’s hard to imagine wanting to stay anywhere else. This score comes even after having some horrible weather during our stay.

💰 $40 a night. You get views, water and access to the amenity block (albeit a walk up the hill if you are not situated on top). A reasonable price in my book!

✅ Take carrots to feed the cows! And if you are not already an early riser, become one for your stay. The view of the sunrise from the hill is amazing (when the weather allows) and you can even do it while enjoying a shower. If Dug (best name!), the very friendly family/farm dog comes to visit and, after some pats you want him to move on, just say “Dug, go home” and he will wander back home again. Very cool!

📌 we stayed on 3 different sites. One on the side of the hill and two up top. Sites are available on a first in first served basis.
