Our Stay @ Tannum Sands (Discovery Parks)
DISCOVERY PARKS - TANNUM SANDS - GURENG GURENG LAND
On our journey back up North we decided to visit a new spot in the Gladstone Region and chose Tannum Sands.
Discovery Parks Tannum Sands is located slightly out of town on Wild Cattle Creek Road. For us, it was a great location - quiet enough (even after arriving at the end of the Boyne Tannum HookUp - Australia’s Largest Family Fishing Competition) and yet easy enough to get into town and up to Gladstone. There’s also an awesome path at the front of the park that leads along all the waterfront facilities in Tannum Sands.
This is also where we first started seeing crocodile warnings on our Big Lap at the creek and mangroves at the front of the park (still far enough away!).
Now for the ABC4 review… (A = positives, B = unique/special, C = needs improvement, 4 = rating, ✅ = additional tip)
[ A ] facilities. This park has all the things! Miss A loved a playground almost on her doorstep plus a pool and a jumping pillow. The toilet block was very clean and the showers had an awesome flow of water. We got the most out of the washing machines with 3 very early loads done on all 3 available washing machines 🙂
[ B ] frogs. Yep, you read this right. Each night I had a shower and I was accompanied by two green tree frogs. Whether these guys are residents and show for others, I am not so sure but I loved them.
[ C ] camp kitchen. On our 10 weeks on the road so far we have been to a few camp kitchens. This is the first time I have felt wanting more… I will call it out though, it still has everything you need.
We arrived just as two other parties were starting their dinners. We were just doing a microwave reheat so after a short wait for the microwave we were good. I noticed the BBQ had to be lit with a lighter rather than the usual ignition built in. The kitchen is also very open with only one side protected from the elements.
[ 4 ] 2 out of 4. It’s another middle of the road score for Discovery Parks - Tannum Sands. There’s nothing that really shines at this location, no WOW factor but at the same time, it’s a clean well resourced caravan park that has everything you need.
💰 $47 a night. A standard price for a powered slab site.
✅ The washing machines & dryers are coin operated only - so make sure you have the coins!
