BREEZE HOLIDAY PARKS (BIG4) - BARGARA BEACHFRONT - GURENG GURENG LAND

We enjoyed 3 nights here and definitely could have stayed longer. This old school caravan park is located at the northern end of Bargara and an easy walk along a pathway to Mons Repos, a well known turtle sanctuary. It was a great spot by the beach and an easy drive into Bundaberg.

Now for the ABC4 review… (A = positives, B = unique/special, C = needs improvement, 4 = rating, ✅= additional tip)

[ A ] chilled vibe and unmarked unpowered site. We were amazed when we arrived to be told that for unpowered sites they simply have two designated areas and you can simply choose your site within these areas. We managed to grab a site in full sun (to harness the most amount of solar to recharge our battery) but south facing which gave us plenty of shade under our awning. The whole park had a chilled vibe with no fuss and we loved it.

[ B ] the history of the area is amazing. Nielson Park located at the front of the park was the home of once famous Railway Picnics (https://www.artsbundaberg.com.au/downloads/file/47/bundaberg-regional-libraries-arts-bundaberg-v3-n1-railway-picnic) and very close to Mons Repos, which is not only is a turtle sanctuary but once the land-based location of a undersea telegraph cable from New Caledonia.

[ C ] very open park with no security type boundary. Some people may find this a plus, but we do prefer a boundary of types that provide comfort / security level. We have had things stolen at park stays and when a park is so open it doesn’t feel as comfortable. Did we lose sleep over this? Definitely not and we’d suggest you wouldn’t lose any sleep over it either, just something to note.

[ 4 ] 3 out of 4. For a different reason than our other 3 out of 4 rated parks - this place just “felt right”.

💰 $40 a night for unpowered site. A reasonable cost in our books.

📌 no marked site for us here

✅ Visit the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens for cane train rides https://www.bundabergcanetrains.org.au/ (specific days only) a Bundaberg historical museum and the Hinkler Hall of Aviation as well as the Fairymead House Sugar Museum. Also, a little south of Bargara in Innes Park is Paradise Bakehouse which has true award winning pies.

UPDATE: For the first time on our Big Lap we actually revisited Bargara. If you follow us on social media (search @abc4adventures) you will know that our awning broke later in the trip and we had to back track to the Sunshine Coast to have it replaced. On the way back North nagain we decided we did want to revisit Bargara. Our updates:

💰 We decided for a powered slab site on our revisit so that increased the nightly cost to $71 which is expensive. We did find out it was a Labour Day long weekend so that likely contributed to the high cost.

📅 2nd to 5th May 2024

✅ Two additional tips. 1. Every Saturday morning there is a parkrun that starts at the front of the caravan park. If you feel like walking or running 5km and you are here on a Saturday, definitely give it a try. We love parkrun and you can find out more on their website. 2. Reiterating the need to visit Paradise Bakery down in Innes Park. This is an award winning (like, serious national awards) pies and I have now enjoyed Curry Prawn, Red Curry Crocodile and Creamy Scallop pies and they are all 10/10.
