Our Stay @ Townsville (BIG4 Tasman Holiday Parks - Rowes Bay)
BIG4 TASMAN HOLIDAY PARKS - ROWES BAY - TOWNSVILLE - NYAWAYGI LAND
When we did our research on staying in Townsville we were initially disappointed that nearly every caravan park in the area had poor reviews via our go-to park app - WikiCamps. In the end, we decided to only stay 2 nights at the best ranked park - BIG4 Tasman Holiday Parks Rowes Bay.
The caravan park is a large resort style park on the shorefront of Rowes Bay and close to the well known Strand district of Townsville.
Now for the ABC4 review… (A = positives, B = unique/special, C = needs improvement, 4 = rating, ✅ = additional tip)
[ A ] central location. Without doubt the location of this park gives it the standout feature. It’s almost “absolute waterfront” with only a road separating it from the waterfront. There’s a wonderful park across the road and Townsville’s famous Strand is only a short drive away, as is the CBD and Castle Hill which overlooks the park.
[ B ] sites. The vast majority of powered sites at this park have a 45 degree, angled spot for your caravan providing an easier reverse into your spot but also giving you a sense that your site is larger than what it actually is.
[ C ] amenities. A tired amenities block lets this park down. Don’t get me wrong, it has everything you need but the number pad locking mechanism didn’t work very well and it all just felt and looked, well, tired.
[ 4 ] 2 out of 4. There’s nothing overly fancy or wonderful about the park. It has all you need from a resort-style park and is more than enough for a short stay. But when compared to other parks for a similar price I cannot go above the 50/50 rating. When it comes to choice within Townsville, I’d say this is definitely the place to go.
💰 $55 a night. On the higher end for a powered site but it was a decent size with concrete slab.
✅ Definitely visit nearby Castle Hill for truly epic views of Townsville and surrounds.
